The Froggy Files of Bonaire

We’ve been finding so many gorgeous little froggies lately! I love discovering new ones just as much as going back to visit past finds to see how they’re doing and what they’re up to. They’re such fascinating little fish. They’re also a great (and much needed) distraction right now.

If you’re on Instagram or Facebook, give us a like or follow! A lot of pics never make it to the blog.

We can go months here without seeing a single froggy then one day we find one, then another, then another. The past two months it seems there are froggies everywhere!

Such a pretty little froggy! Love that little vertical stripe on its lip. Very well hidden too!
Another well hidden one, even more so without the strobe flash. J found it somehow.
Loved this sweet froggy! It really blended in well with the sponge without the flash. Unfortunately it picked a spot on a very busy dive site and probably got bugged all day. It has since moved on.
I love how they peek out from behind things.
How gorgeous is this little one? Its just a couple of inches long. We spent HOURS across our friend group trying to find it. I finally got ahold of a hand drawn map and my friend found him at long last. I was starting to doubt its existence! I got to see him twice before he moved on. Definitely an all-time favorite!
This guy is tiny and actually dark maroon without the strobe. He’s always a challenge to find, usually tucked deep underneath overhangs. He’s a trio with the next two.
This little pale green froggy showed up about two months after we started watching the yellow one below. We found him by accident while looking for the little red guy above.
This froggy doesn’t even attempt to blend in, ever. It’s been around the same spot for at least 2 months and is a bright yellow beacon on the reef. The two above are her buddies.
This guy is incredibly hard to find if he doesn’t move. This is the grey one from the “froggy pursuit” video in the last post.
The grey one above is her little boyfriend. She’s the orange one from the pursuit video. They can often be found near each other. Check out the video below of them snuggled on the reef together.
Not prettiest froggy but very well camouflaged!
This is our latest find, love its cool marbled appearance! You can also tell it was yellow not too long ago.

The froggies from the pursuit video snuggled up together 🙂

Watch this froggy snag a snack at the 6 second mark. That sharp-nose puffer almost became a froggy snack!
