A story of marine debris…

We love paddling the mangroves and ocean flats behind our house. It’s so peaceful out there and no two paddles are the same. We see sharks, spotted eagle rays, turtles, tarpon, occasional manatees, and a lot of other animals. The ocean facing mangroves took a beating from Irma but a few dedicated people in our neighborhood have been slowly cleaning them by kayak, canoe, and paddle board. Every paddle is a chance to improve the environment! Last weekend when we went out to paddle & snorkel in the flats was no different – we grabbed everything we could.

We all know that plastic bags pose a huge danger to hungry sea turtles, but what happens when creatures find our debris and make them their home?

We’re always careful to shake out every piece of trash to free any critters before taking it. We mostly find gobies living in bottles and cans. They love them!

Here’s a story of marine debris that had a happy ending for one little creature…. enjoy!

Stay warm!
