Cool creatures kicking it on the reef!

The summer diving has been fantastic! We’ve been out at every opportunity and have been finding some really cool creatures. We’re obsessed with little things and spend hours diving as slowly as possible looking for the reef’s tiniest inhabitants.

Here are a few photos and videos of some recent finds and where we found them. Can’t wait to see what the rest of summer brings! I realize summer is over for most of the country but we still have a few months of awesome diving ahead of us here.

#1 – Juvenile Buffalo Trunkfish

found on Horseshoe Reef off of Key Largo in the Florida Keys. Trunkfish are one of my absolute favorite juvis to find! We’ve found quite a few smooth trunkfish juvis but never a buffalo! Made my day!

#2 – Female Bluethroat Pikeblenny

A first for us! We’ve been looking for a pikeblenny for a long time. We thought it was a pipefish at first since the fish ID books only show the male which looks much different than the female. Thanks to the fish ID talks at the REEF headquarters here in Key Largo we were able to properly identify this little one.

#3 – Juvenile Smooth Trunkfish

We’ve found two of these recently… of course we only had our GoPro with the close focus lens. Better than having nothing! Juvenile smooth trunkfish.

What cool things have you found this summer?

Stay warm friends!
