Bonaire in September

September is slow season for just about everywhere, here included. School is starting and everyone is saying goodbye to lazy summer days and getting back into the swing of things. September is a great time to visit Bonaire but you should know a few things before you book.

No Hurricanes

Bonaire is situated outside the hurricane belt which makes it a great place to visit during hurricane season. Every mooring block in town is taken right now by cruisers waiting for the rest of the Caribbean to be safe to sail again. If you don’t want to risk your vacation being ruined by a hurricane then come on down to Bonaire!

Feeling hot, hot, hot…

It’s HOT this time of year. Very very hot. And while 84 with a feels like 94 might not sound that hot, trust me it is. The breeze has been dead. When it’s breezy it’s fine, we never even use our AC but the past 3 nights we’ve had it on all night. If you’re here on vacation at a resort or vacation rental you’ll have AC so I wouldn’t let it deter you unless you really hate the heat in which case visit us in the winter.

Less wind = more east side diving!

If you’ve tried diving the east side from shore then you know you’re often skunked by huge crashing waves and impossible entries. Less wind means more chances to visit your favorite east side spots!

A rough day on the east side…

Have the island to yourself!

Well, not completely but it feels like that some days. We dove the Hilma Hooker last week with friends and had the wreck to ourselves! That’s rare even this time of year. No one can resist the mystery of a sunken drug ship. The Hilma Hooker is one of the top 3 most visited sites along with the Salt Pier and 1000 Steps so having it to yourself is a real treat!

See you soon!

Happy Bubbles!
