This n’ That
Last week I caught you guys up on the madness going on at work and this week I’m happy to report that a lot has changed! I said that anyone with basic math skills could see the project couldn’t be completed in the allotted time and thankfully they’ve realized it’s beyond unrealistic & the team is getting a 6 month delay. Yippee!! Everyone gets their life back.
Now what to do?
If you’ve been reading a while you know that last year was our year to “just say yes.” I said “yes” to so much that I rolled into the new year with almost no vacation days in the bank. 2015 was definitely a year to remember & I wouldn’t change a thing about it. In the spirit of looking on the bright side, the craziness at work came at a good time for me – since no one was allowed to take time off I’ve built up a bit of a surplus and I’d be lying if I said we weren’t both itching to take a trip.
And now that we’ll be in the states a bit longer we might as well extend the year of “yes” into 2016. Why not, right? First, we’re going back to Chapel Hill-NC this coming weekend to see TMBG on what’s most likely their final tour. We’d never been to Chapel Hill before the year of “yes” and we both loved it so we’re looking forward to going back. Then yesterday we found out two of our favorite bands (Band of Horses & Death Cab for Cutie) are playing almost back to back in Richmond so we’ll be doing that too. I’m so glad we “work from home” because “home” can be anywhere and for a few days it’ll be Richmond. After that, I want to get back to New England to visit my dad for a weekend. But then where?
We’re looking at the week of 4th of July to go somewhere. We almost always travel on holiday weeks because it includes a free day off from work. Doing that allows us to extend our measly vacation time by a week a year. Planning a trip is somewhat complicated by the fact that we don’t know where we’ll be flying out of…our mid-Atlantic airport or Miami. A lot of our trips connect through Miami so we just need to figure out the logistics of skipping a leg of a booked flight – or waiting till much closer to the trip to book it which could be risky if we pick a place with limited flights.
I still want to check out St. Croix & we both want to go to Ecuador but we need to save that for a time when we can take 2 weeks off. Montserrat & Dominica are also possibilities. The out islands of the Bahamas are on the list but that’s such an easy trip from the Keys we might save it until we move. Maybe we’ll check out Statia, that was 2nd on the list when we went to Saba. I think the one thing we can both agree on is to go somewhere new. I’d also like to go somewhere that could be a possibility for us to live which would knock Montserrat off the list. Although finding a place to live might not be the driver for this trip because the more I reflect on our time in Mahahual (I just realized I never wrote our “is Mahahual for us” post, I’ll work on that soon) the more sure I am that I’d be extremely happy there for a while.
Where will we go next? I really have no idea …stay tuned…
Until next time ….
Stay warm friends!
