Stepping up our game

It’s here! We splurged on underwater housing for our camera and it just came in! They were running a special too, buy the housing and get a body & lens for $50! That’s a huge value! We sold the extra lens for $50 but we’ll keep the body as a spare. It’s a last generation camera and the housing is only good for that exact body so it’ll be great to have a backup in case it floods.

We still have a couple weeks left to master using the camera in the housing on land. We read a site that makes a great point! If you can’t take great pics with the camera in the housing on land, you have no hope to underwater. So he’ll be practicing with it from here on out. Our next purchase after this trip will be a strobe and a stability tray and that’ll be it for a while. We’ll be able to take some pretty awesome pics with that setup. My other half is definitely the photographer among us. He’s responsible for pretty much every picture on the blog – except for the sweet shot in this post, I took that all by myself with my iPhone.

Until now, we’ve only been diving with our GoPro which I’ll start carrying. For the price, you can’t go wrong with a GoPro. It’s small, extremely durable and does a pretty good job taking pics and video. We’ve absolutely enjoyed having it. My only complaint is the battery life. It only lasts one dive so we generally take it on the 2nd dive since it’s shallower providing more natural light which results in better pics. I’ve seen some people swap batteries on the boat between dives but I feel like that’s a bit risky & not worth it to me. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t carry a camera both dives anyway. I really like just experiencing the dive and the sights without fiddling with a camera. I feel like you can spend your whole dive focusing on taking pics leaving you with little time to simply enjoy the moment.

I can’t wait to share our Mahahual diving pics with everyone!

We had two 80 degree days here this week. I’ll take it!

Warm thoughts to all!
