Fly High Sweet Girl
We said goodbye to our sweet Foo today. At 15 we knew her time was near but you’re never ready. It was obvious last night today would be the day.
As completely heartbroken as we are we have to celebrate a dog life well lived. Foo girl had an awesome life and was an even more awesome dog.
We rescued her just over 13 years ago. She was found stray at a campground and taken in by a local rescue. I’m not sure if she was intentionally left behind by her old family or if she just got lost.
However she got there we’re grateful since it ultimately brought her to us š
We met her at her foster home and immediately fell in love! She came home two days later and our lives were forever changed. I was just starting a year-long recovery from knee surgery and a walking buddy was just what I needed. You just look kinda creepy walking very slowly around a neighborhood by yourself. Add a dog though and no one thinks anything of it. She was the perfect companion!
She loved adventures more than anything. She lived in three states and two countries and loved nothing more than the novelty of new smells and new places. Whatever we were doing, she was up for it! And boy was she smart. She learned so many words we had to start spelling around her. She interacted with the world around her with genuine interest. When we moved to the Keys she would spend hours watching the fish off the dock trying to figure out what they were.
Being part beagle she followed her nose and always found the most disgusting things to eat or roll in wherever we went. I can’t tell you how many gross things we tried to get her to drop over the years. She loved rides, walks, and always drank her water three laps at a time.
In the Keys when we’d sit on the porch and watch a thunderstorm roll by she’d insistently paw the door to get us to come inside. She was scared of storms and thought we were in danger so she’d try to save us.
She also loved her dog brother Banks. I just hope he’ll be okay without her. He always looked to her for comfort, protection and guidance so he’ll be navigating a whole new world without her. He was just a pup when we rescued him and I doubt he remembers a time in his life when she wasn’t there.
Thanks for all of the love, companionship, adventures, laughs, and snuggles over the years. Just looking at the pic on the bottom right I’m reminded of the desiccated lizard carcass you dug up on the beach that day.
Damn we were lucky to have you.
