Florida Keys – I love you!
This is our last weekend living in the Keys! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already! We should be packing, and we are, but we’re also soaking up every last minute of our time on these quirky little islands by visiting everything & everyone we love here!
So today, on my last Sunday here, I thought I’d share my favorite things about living here.
Best Parts of Keys Living:
In no particular order!
- The #1 thing I’ll miss is all of the awesome people here! This is the best community I’ve ever been a part of! The rest are in no particular order 🙂
- Living on a canal. I have absolutely loved this. It costs a bit more but it was worth it to us. I love having boats, jet skis, fellow paddlers, swimmers and manatees in my backyard. Plus it makes paddling so easy! It’s a unique way to live that we’ll probably never have again so I’m glad we did it while we had the chance!
- Knowing everyone everywhere! This might not be a plus for some people but I love the small community down here. I even run into people I know underwater!
- The eclectic people. This was next to me at Publix.
- Sunsets. Going to sunset has to be the best way to spend an evening in the Keys. Live music, cold beer and great friends. Our favorite will always be Bayside Sunset Grille. We spend the whole time out on the dock and have seen all kinds of awesome creatures by the fish lights after dark.
- The paddling! Please don’t come to the Keys and not paddle, it’s amazing! I love my paddle crew & will miss them and our adventures immensely!
- Opportunities to get involved in conservation events. There’s always something going on from land-based cleanups, to underwater cleanups, Coral Restoration Activities, etc. There’s something for everyone!
- Places where everyone knows your name 🙂
- Fish ID talks! They’re at REEF, check ’em out!
- Florida Keys Brewing Company! Most of our friends can be found here on any given day but especially at Friday night trivia. I’ll miss this place, the great people, and the good vibes.
- Festivals at Founders Park
- The amazing food at Meze Morada! This place recently opened and it’s killer. Make sure to pay them a visit at MM81. The homemade pitas are to die for. Also love the nachos with lentils and the seared halloumi!
- Taking a drive south. The views from the bridges are absolutely breathtaking. Take your time and enjoy the day!
- Day trips to Big Pine Key! The drive down is gorgeous and I love visiting the Blue Hole and enjoying the key deer refuge. Please don’t pet or feed the deer!
- Dagny Johnson State Park in the winter. A great little trail system in north Key Largo. Beware of the mosquitos any other time of year! They are fierce!
- Quiet nights on our back porch with our dogs having drinks, talking about anything & everything, and listening to the nighthawks. I love hearing them swoop!
So long Key Largo! You’ve been amazing! See you next summer!
