Bonaire – should you book a boat dive?

We just returned from our 3rd trip in 15 months to Bonaire and it was fantastic! We’ve already booked another trip for March. At this point, a huge part of our repeat visits is to solidify that it’s our “spot”, at least our next spot. Nowhere is forever at this point.

Bonaire’s shore diving is amazing, possibly the best in the world. With so many sites accessible from shore, you’re probably asking yourself if it’s worth it to book some boat dives.

I love shore diving too, I’m right there with you. I love not having a set schedule, going as slow as I want, and staying down until me or my buddy runs low on air. I love driving to some of the more remote southern sites and surfacing to see our lone pick-up truck with the salt pyramids in the background.

All that said, you should consider booking a couple of boat dives. There are sites that aren’t accessible from shore that are worth the time & cost to see. The sites around Klein are gorgeous as are some of the northern sites that you have no hope of diving from shore, especially those in the park. Ask to be on a boat with a guide who knows the sites and can hopefully match your diving style depending on the other divers on the boat. I also enjoy meeting fellow divers and sometimes the ease of boat diving is just what you need after a few days of lugging tanks and gear around the island 🙂

These beauties were at a site off of Klein where they’re frequently spotted although never before together. We spent the entire hour with them.
