Home Sweet Home

….and we’re back! We got home around 4:00 yesterday. It was nice to get home early and have enough time to unload the car, get our house up and running and even do a little unpacking. It was also cold and it’s cold again today. And while it’s good to be home, it also feels a bit conflicting as I had a feeling it would.

The drive back was much easier on us than the drive down. I think a big part of that was heading into the known versus the relatively unknown. I say relatively because we were down in Key Largo in September and even saw our rental house, so it wasn’t entirely unknown.

I was also going through huge changes at work when we left. I had just switched from a management position back to what they call an “individual contributor” (makes you feel special, right?) and from the office to working from home full-time. That’s a lot of change all at once.

The other part is because we split up the drive better by stopping in Savannah which is much closer to the half-way point than Daytona. It just made for a much better trip. We’ll stop in Savannah when we go back too.

Savannah was a great place to stop for the dogs too. We stayed on the riverfront and the area is very walk-able with little parks scattered throughout. We took them on a long walk & they were even able to sit with us at dinner. They got a lot of smiles & pets from passerby too! I know when we travel without our dogs I love on other people’s dogs and it was nice to return the favor. It was a bit chilly to sit outside for dinner (especially since I left my only sweatshirt at the rental house) but well worth it to keep our dogs with us & the people watching was pretty good too. The things we do for our fur babies!

We were all tired out & in bed by 9:00.

Dog friendly hotel in Savannah

A little playtime before bed …. and they’re out!

Coming home & walking into our house was like visiting an old friend that you haven’t seen in a long time. That feeling of falling right back in step with each other as if you’d never been apart. The dogs seemed to feel the same way. They knew exactly where they were & couldn’t wait to smell all the new smells in the yard. Their buddy Sasha came by for a little playtime too. It was sweet to see them reunite with their dog friend.

But I do miss the Keys. Looking at the weather there it was 80 today to our 40. I’d be writing from deck, listening to the birds and we’d be planning a paddle or maybe biking to the outdoor pool. We’d live the day outside whereas here we’ll live it inside. At least we missed the worst of winter. The plants are showing signs of spring and the 10 day forecast isn’t too terrible.

One thing I am really excited about is the new yoga studio opened less than a mile from our house! The classes offered all look great and they have a free 5 class pass to try it out. My old studio was less than 4 miles away, hardly a hardship, but less than a mile is even better 🙂 I’ll check it out tomorrow. Today is a recovery day for us. The only thing I have to do is go grocery shopping and I want to take the dogs to the beach. Other than that I’m not doing a damn thing.

Thanks to my in-laws, little sis and neighbor for allowing us to not have to leave the house last night! We arrived home to find a vase of beautiful fresh flowers, a crock pot of soup, bread, brownies, banana muffins, banana bread from the farmer’s market and a bottle of wine!  THANK YOU all for the thoughtfulness! 🙂 Such an awesome surprise!

I’m expecting the next couple of weeks to be a bit of a honeymoon period as we catch up with everyone, go to our favorite places and eat our favorite foods. I’ll also be working a lot for the next 2 months. I was pulled into a project at work that’s very far behind so we’re trying to get it back on track. If you don’t hear from me much, that’s why. That said, there’s an upper-bound to how much I’ll work. I won’t sacrifice the things I need to feel healthy & peaceful.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Until next time…

Warm thoughts to all!
