Happy Thanksgiving!

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving from the Florida Keys!

Today, I’m thankful we took a chance moving here however long it lasts. Moving here wasn’t easy. We left a life we loved to take a chance on something new. I have so much to be thankful for but I’m dedicating this Thanksgiving to the Keys since it could very well be our last one here.

We moved here not knowing a soul and even with both of us working from home full-time we’ve managed to build a huge network of friends in just over 2 years, much larger than what we had where we left. We knew a lot of people there don’t get me wrong but we didn’t connect with as many people there and that’s a huge difference. Everyone here has made an effort to be here. Combine that with the few attractions that drive people here and you end up with a lot of like-minded people in a small place 🙂

I’m so thankful for the outdoor lifestyle here and my access to the water. I never knew how much I loved to paddle until we moved here. I’m out there every chance I get. I’m thankful for the diving, the fish geeks we’re surrounded by, the opportunities to get involved in conservation efforts through debris dives & the Coral Restoration Foundation. I’m thankful for gorgeous sunsets, neighbors who are like family, and the flock of wild parrots who are constantly squawking as they fly by. I’m thankful the climate allows us to be outside all year round, for the casual come-as-you-are attitude, and for the eclectic mix of people I’ve met here.

Me in my happy place 🙂

I don’t dream about being somewhere else all the time like I did when we were in Virginia. I did love it there but my heart and mind always had a tug for somewhere else. Once we discovered diving we couldn’t get enough of it so we were always looking forward to the next trip. We were only supposed to be here a year and I never expected to fall in love with the Keys the way I have. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the Keys and the time we were fortunate enough to spend here!

Enjoy the day everyone!
