Free Books!

We love to read! Fiction, non-fiction, memoirs … you name it, we read it.  I can’t imagine life without books. We’ll need reliable access to books when we go where it’s warm so yesterday we signed up for library cards. I haven’t had a library card since I was a kid & I now see the error in my ways. I’ve had an e-reader for years and have been buying books at a rate of 2-3 per month. That really adds up. We’ve spent around $500 on books just in the last year. Budget-wise, this isn’t a big deal for us now but once we move we won’t be able to afford to spend that much on books. And really, why spend money that you don’t have to spend? There’s no point in crying over money that’s already been spent, but we won’t be spending anymore!

A few years ago we disconnected our cable for the same reason. We almost never watched TV and one day we asked ourselves… “why are we paying for cable if we don’t use it?” Good point, we had it turned off the very next day and never looked back. We listen to more NPR (if that’s even possible) & read more. We do have a Netflix account if we really want to watch TV. We’re into Lost right now which I know is so 5 years ago. If we keep watching at our current rate of around 1 per week we’ll be done in a year or so.

Anyway, I digress. When we got home from the library I immediately started getting everything setup. Within 20 minutes I was connected and had downloaded my first book to my nook. That book was $13.99 on B&N so cha-ching, already saving money. Money that we can invest for later.

I haven’t talked much about where we’ll be moving to yet other than that it will be outside the country for two reasons:  1 – we just started this blog a few days ago, be patient! 2 – we haven’t fully decided on the location yet, but we’ve narrowed it down.

One thing is for certain, none of the places on our list have an extensive public library so we needed to secure a source of books before we go.  One little item to cross off the list!

Warm thoughts to all!
