100 Dives!

We went on our 100th dive this morning! If you’re not a diver you’re probably thinking to yourself “what’s the big deal?”, if you are a diver I bet you’re wondering if we stuck with a longstanding tradition …read on for answers to both 🙂

100 is a big milestone for any diver! If you’re a casual diver it can take years to rack up 100 dives. It’s also the # of dives you need to become an instructor which is a major reason it’s such a magical number within the diving community.

We started diving in December of 2011 & were hooked from our first descent. I’ve always loved the water but I never expected to fall so hard for diving.

Our first open water dive was in Roatan and we were both a bundle of nerves & excitement. I checked my air and depth gauges constantly and kept looking up at the surface in awe. Four years & 100 dives later, that awe hasn’t faded. The ocean is ever-changing, if you live near the beach you know what I mean. A walk on the beach two days in a row is a completely different experience. The water is different, the sand texture changes not to mention what washes up. Diving is a lot like that, the same site is never the same one day to the next. I also find being underwater very peaceful. I love the sound of my own bubbles, the silence and of course being weightless and free. It’s a different world underwater – one I look forward to returning to as soon as I surface.

Have I convinced the non-divers out there to give it a try yet?

Over the last 4 years of diving we’ve been to some amazing places, met a lot of terrific people & seen some truly amazing marine life. It’s been an awesome experience all around.

So did we keep tradition & dive in our birthday suits? Sadly we did not. Our 100th dive was on the Spiegel Grove. If you’ve ever been on it you know the passages are sharp & narrow and we were on a boat with a lot of divers. Maybe for our 200th we’ll have a make up.

Here’s to the next 100!

Until next time…

Be Warm Friends!
